The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of Hungary is an independent budgetary body with countrywide jurisdiction, under the control of the Minister of Interior of Hungary. Within the territory of Hungary, 7 regional directorates and 24 branch offices serve the significant number of foreign national clients of the authority at present. The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of Hungary is the countrywide competent authority responsible for cases related to the entry, stay, residence and settlement of foreign nationals and processing asylum applications. In addition, the authority is responsible for making decisions in the cases of foreign nationals who are staying illegally in Hungary or foreign nationals committing other offences, and for organising the repatriation of foreign nationals under the obligation to leave the territory of Hungary.
